Dr. Michael Erkkinen is a member of the faculty at Harvard Medical School and currently serves as the Clinical Director of the Division of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He completed undergraduate studies at Amherst College and received his medical degree from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Dr. Erkkinen completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, residency in Neurology at the combined Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Program, and fellowships in Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology at the UCSF Memory and Aging Center and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He previously served as the Clinical Director at the UCSF Memory Aging Center before returning to the Brigham in October 2022.
Dr. Erkkinen is clinically focused and specializes in caring for adults with cognitive and behavioral symptoms. He teaches trainees across the spectrum of medical education, including medical students, residents, fellows, and his peers. He is interested in understanding brain-behavior relationships, in particular speech/language disorders and the neurology of creative expression. He oversees the clinical efforts in this area and leads initiatives designed to improve the quality of care delivered and patient experience. He is the proud parent of his two-year-old twin daughters.
